Terms & Conditions
Please read these Terms carefully before using parrot. By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to be bound by them.
1 · Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the parrot application ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Sycamore Pty Ltd, a company registered in South Africa ("we", "us", "our").
2 · Description of Service
What parrot is: parrot is an iOS language-learning application that provides vocabulary flashcards, reading stories, spaced-repetition review, and AI-assisted translation and word-explanation tools.
AI-generated content: Some content within parrot is generated by AI (including word explanations and translations). We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI-generated content for any particular purpose. Always verify important language information from authoritative sources.
Changes to features: Features, content, and availability may change or be discontinued at any time without notice.
3 · User Accounts
Account requirement: You must create an account to use parrot. You may register with an email address and password, or via Sign in with Apple.
Account security: You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@parrot-languages.com if you suspect unauthorised access.
Age requirement: You must be at least 13 years old to create an account (16 in the EEA). By creating an account you confirm you meet this requirement.
4 · Subscriptions & In-App Purchases
Billing via Apple: parrot offers optional paid subscriptions processed entirely through Apple In-App Purchase. Your payment is handled by Apple; Sycamore Pty Ltd does not store or process your payment details.
Auto-renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage or cancel at any time in your Apple ID account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions).
Refunds: No refunds are provided for partial subscription periods. Refund requests are handled by Apple in accordance with their policies. Where required by applicable law, statutory refund rights are not affected.
5 · Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise tamper with the App or its underlying code.
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service, our servers, or any connected systems.
- Upload, submit, or transmit content that is harmful, offensive, defamatory, or that infringes any third-party rights.
- Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to interact with the App or its backend services.
Violation of these rules may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account without notice or refund.
6 · Intellectual Property
Ownership: All content, design, trademarks, and code within parrot are owned by or licensed to Sycamore Pty Ltd unless otherwise stated.
Third-party content: Certain content within the App (including dictionary data, language resources, and flag icons) is used under third-party licences. Those materials remain the property of their respective owners.
Your licence: We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App for personal, non-commercial language-learning purposes only.
7 · User-Submitted Content
Your responsibility: parrot allows you to import or paste text for personal language-learning use. You are solely responsible for ensuring that any content you submit does not infringe the copyright, intellectual property rights, or other rights of any third party.
No liability for user content: Sycamore Pty Ltd is not responsible for any content you import into the App and accepts no liability for any infringement arising from content you submit. By importing content, you confirm that you have the right to do so.
8 · Disclaimer of Warranties
parrot is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of AI-generated translations, explanations, or dictionary entries.
9 · Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Sycamore Pty Ltd and its directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the App.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including statutory consumer rights.
10 · Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of South Africa, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.
11 · Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. For material changes we will provide notice via email or an in-app notification no fewer than 14 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
